The DJI Mavic Pro is my all-time favorite. This UAV is one of the most sophisticated and compact. It is definitely Earth by Drones’ first choice for it’s flying performances. But as I am posting this last video I wonder why then, was I so “intimate” with the Spark?
The purchase of a Mavic is a serious one. You have watched all those video, read reviews, comments and that is a trigger. Now you need it!
Then, comes the unpacking ceremony. And that’s when you completely realise you have reached next level in dronecademy. Now you play in the grown-ups league. Becoming a Mavic Pro pilot is not difficult per say when you have zillions of flight hours behind. However, you are conscious to fly in another category.
Yes because it is a more expensive drone indeed compared to a Spark. But it is an insured drone so that evens out.
And No because I think it is actually some very personal habit of mine.
I like to take care of my belongings. And this one is deemed to stay clean and safe as long as it can. Maybe because in a corner of my mind it is a bit sacred. The Mavic is so awesome to me that I want to make use of it only on special and therefore rare occasions. Like that outfit you’d wear only for big events. As a result, it does not come natural to grab the Mavic and head off for a flight. Thus, less usage, less confidence.
Flying to me is is all about experiencing the freedom and keeping a live track on record. So what happens? I feel the urge to fly… I grab the draft.
And I am sorry to say that, dear Spark, but you have spent all of 2017 as a draft to your older brother. On the other hand I took you around every time. (and that’s when you start wondering if I’ve lost my mind?)
Things are things. Yes I know that. But I really liked the Spark. My single-eyed pal and me shared many special moments and emotions. I guess it created a relationship of some sort. It humanised it. As I write, I come to realise I miss it. It was less stress to pack the Spark for which, by the way, I have specially designed 3D protection accessories.
The Mavic Pro is not the drone I naturally choose for flying around, unprepared. A quick flight here another there. For some reason all along last year I travelled around and took the easy going Spark. Until it crashed.
It comes without saying I am currently flying the Mavic a lot more. But I miss that confident relationship I had with the Spark.
What is it with my Mavic? Am I an over protective drone pilot??? Sounds ridiculous, yes.
Nope it is plain simple. The lack of practise is the answer to this. If you want to fly like a pro with your pro. USE IT!
Build trust, sharpen those instincts. It will only come with practise. I actually know that, but I forgot.
